Snow and freezing rain made driving dangerous on many roads the last few days. At the Lexington-based Central KY Driving School, owner and state-certified instructor Amber Wedding teaches students how to deal with snowy and icy roads. She said the first lesson is to not drive in dangerous conditions. The second is, slow down. “Whether it’s inclement weather or the sun in your eyes, or, you know, lack of visibility – I know when I was driving the other day in the snow, when it just started, it was a little bit of a whiteout. So you know, for each one of those elements, you need to reduce your speed once again.” As for dealing with that terrible feeling of losing control during a turn, Wedding said take your foot off the gas pedal, don’t hit the brakes, and do this: “Don’t freeze up, you know, stay very calm and don’t stop driving. If the front of the car is headed to the left, gently start steering to the right.
