LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Three new midfielders are joining Lexington Sporting Club to raise the club’s number of new signings to fifteen. The total number of players on LSC’s men’s professional outfit is now 20. Edrey Cáceres The former Marquette and UCLA midfielder has experience playing not just in college, but also in Major League Soccer academy and international competitions. Caceres is a Houston, Texas native and played for the Dynamo’s youth development teams for six years. He’s also been called up to the U23 national team of El Salvador once. “Edrey is a smart, technical player with great ball security,” said Head Coach Terry Boss. “He can identify dangerous space and his vertical passing will be valuable to connect and progress our attack.” This is Caceres’ first professional contract. Sofiane Djeffal The Frenchman and Head Coach Terry Boss have quite the history. Both have been together first with the Oregon State Beavers, then with Austin FC and now in Lexington. Djeffal was a three-time All-Pac 12 selection in Corvallis and was drafted by DC United in 2022. He made over 20 appearances for the Black and Red before being picked up by Boss and AFC via the MLS Re-Entry Draft the next season. The 25-year-old also played for Orange County SC and San Antonio FC in the USL Championship. “I’m really excited about being part of this ambitious project. Can’t wait to meet everybody and build something special that will inspire and impact the community positively on and off the field,” said Djeffal. Nick Firmino Coming down a league from MLS, Firmino played for Atlanta United’s first and development teams since 2023. The same year, he lead the Atlanta second team in goals with 16 and assists with six while starting in 25 matches. Firmino’s goal tally set a new single-season club record and was good enough for him to become a league MVP finalist. He was signed to a first team contract through 2026 in October 2023. Last season with the Atlanta senior team, the Brazilian started two matches and played in eight overall. “I’m very excited to be joining Lexington,” said Firmino. “I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the team, the staff, and the fans and I can’t wait to get started.” Categories: Featured, More Sports, Sports Tags: greens, Lexington, Lexington Sporting Club, Soccer, uslc
