Specifically, one group of dedicated individuals chose to hunker down for two nights at a local animal shelter to ensure that all pets were receiving 24/7 love and care as the conditions worsened. They conducted daily operations, like feeding the animals, cleaning their kennels, providing them with socialization and interaction opportunities, giving them tasks to enrich and engage their brains, and of course, providing them with all the love they could need. The most impressive fact about this story, though, is that the shelter typically needs a full staff to successfully care for the hundreds of cats, dogs, and guinea pigs. However, the challenge proved easy for the six volunteers, who cared for each animal with great efficiency and care. In the midst of conducting their daily tasks, the two-day escapade held many highlights for both the animals and staff. According to the shelter, dogs were given the time to run off their energy and join playgroups both inside and outside, and several cats took part in story times, listening to staff members read books at various points in the day. However, the six workers made the most of their situation. By Monday, other Wayside Waifs team members helped clear the parking lot, giving the volunteers a chance to finally go home. But even though their sleepover at the animal shelter officially ended, the two-day shut-in will most likely never be forgotten by both the animals and staff. At this time, hundreds of animals are still available for adoption. Click here to view Wayside Waifs' available cats, dogs and other furry friends.
