HUDSON, Wis. (WFRV) - The City of Hudson Fire Department received an unusual call, requesting assistance at the St. Croix River.
According to a Facebook post from the City of Hudson WI Fire Department, the call came in on Monday, stating that a swan was frozen to the ice on the river.
The post says that since the local conservation warden was unavailable and officials did not want the public to try and perform the rescue due to safety reasons, the Hudson Fire Department was able to send out a crew.

The fire department says this is not something they would normally do but they were successful in bringing the swan to shore, where it later received the care it needed.
Hudson Fire Department highlights that this risk was worth the reward in preventing a citizen from falling through the ice to recuse the swan.
They remind the public that ice is never completely safe, especially in rivers where currents are always moving.
