Wisconsin man arrested for attempted breakin, drug use suspected

VIROQUA, Wis. (WFRV) - A 44-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested after reportedly attempting to enter a private home on State Highway 56 in western Wisconsin.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, reports came in around 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 4 that somebody was trying to enter the home.
The victims reported hearing cries for help outside, according to the release. Around 5:30 a.m., the suspect, identified as Joel Davis of West Salem was detained as the investigation continued. Davis was reportedly alone and unharmed, and subsequently arrested and taken to the Vernon County Detention Center.

Davis reportedly was set for a Bail Hearing on Monday at the Vernon County Circuit Court. Formal charges have not yet been established.
Davis was released on extended supervision in July 2024 two years after being sentenced to four years in state prison due to convictions on multiple drug charges. Officers believed the incident on Saturday was at least somewhat influenced by drug use.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no more details were provided.
