PERU, Ind. — One suspect has been shot by police in Peru after a "strange man" was found in a pregnant woman's garage. According to state police and local law enforcement, the shooting occurred on Tuesday morning at a mobile home park in the 1600 block of State Road 19. A neighbor told FOX59/CBS4 that a pregnant woman lives in the home and had been leaving to head to the hospital for a C-section when she spotted a "strange man" in her garage. Police were called to the scene and the confrontation turned violent. According to Indiana State Police, officers were called out to the residence at 8:30 a.m. Police were told about the suspect "banging on windows." Officers ended up being led to a trailer where the suspect was reportedly holding up. State police said officers encountered the suspect outside and claimed the suspect "brandished a firearm toward law enforcement." An officer then shot the suspect. The injured suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not provided. Information released by state police does not include any mention of the suspect firing his weapon at responding police officers despite preliminary reports of shots being fired at police. Two additional suspects remained barricaded inside the trailer which led to a standoff with SWAT being called to the scene. Negotiators eventually convinced the suspects to exit the residence without further incident. The scene of a police involved shooting in Peru on State Road 19 on Jan. 7, 2025.
