El Paso ISD to close Wednesday; others closed or delay

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The following school districts have announced closures or delays for Wednesday, Jan. 8 because of expected inclement weather.
El Paso ISD
Due to expected inclement weather, El Paso ISD said it will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Here is a statement from EPISD:
“Due to inclement weather and potentially hazardous conditions, the district will be closed on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. This includes the cancellation of Extended Day Learning classes for both the morning and afternoon, as well as all on-ground student travel to extracurricular activities.
"The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We are in constant communication with the Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service to stay updated on the latest developments. Please stay tuned to district communication channels for further information this week.
"We understand the impact these closures have and appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please stay home and stay safe.”
San Elizario ISD
Due to the uncertainty of the weather conditions for Wednesday, Jan. 8 and possible hazardous road conditions expected, the San Elizario Independent School District will remain closed.
This decision has been made to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community, the district said.
Classes will be made up on Monday, May 5.
Gadsden ISD
Due to very cold temperatures expected for Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Gadsden Independent School District will start classes with a two-hour delay.

"Wind chill temperatures are expected to feel like eight degrees, and this adjustment ensures the safety of our students waiting at bus stops during these conditions," Gadsden ISD announced in a news release.
Gadsden ISD said staff members will report to work at their regularly scheduled time.
Anthony ISD
Anthony Independent School District will have a two-hour delay on Wednesday. Anthony Elementary will start at 9:45 a.m. and Anthony secondary schools will start at 10:30 a.m.
Buses will operate on a two-hour delayed schedule.
Clint ISD
There will be no classes on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Make-up day will be Feb 17.
El Paso Leadership Academy
El Paso Leadership Academy says it will not have classes on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Socorro ISD
Socorro ISD will be on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. Morning pre-K classes will be canceled. Transportation and breakfast service will be on a two-hour delay as well.
Canutillo ISD
Canutillo ISD will also be on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.
Students will start their classes two hours later than normal at all CISD campuses. School buses also will pick up students two hours later than normal. The rest of the instructional day, including school bus drop-off, will remain on a regular schedule.
