EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An 18-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a 23-year-old man who was trying to intervene in a fight Saturday night, Dec. 20 at a Northeast El Paso apartment complex, El Paso Police said. Alejandro Corral, 18. Photo: EPPD. As we have previously reported, police were called at around 11:30 p.m. that Saturday night to 9435 Diana on reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Melendez who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The preliminary information on the investigation revealed that a physical altercation took place between two groups of people in the parking lot of the apartment complex. During the altercation, Melendez was shot when he attempted to intervene and the suspect, later identified as Corral, fled the scene before officers arrived, police said. Corral is facing a charge of murder and a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a total bond of $650,000.
