WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President-elect Donald Trump vowed to reverse President Joe Biden's sweeping ban on offshore oil drilling.  President Biden announced on Monday a ban on oil drilling off the East Coast, West Coast and part of the Gulf Coast, among other sites. The area affected is about 625 million acres, the White House said.  "That's like the whole ocean," President-elect Trump said at a press conference on Tuesday. "I will reverse it immediately."  A reversal would likely require a vote from Congress.  "This is a huge action taken by President Biden," said Ben Jealous, the executive director of the Sierra Club. "That's a big deal for protecting our oceans, our waters, our fish, our marine life of all sorts."  Jealous said banning offshore drilling will help prevent a repeat of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  "The risk of oil spills, as we saw with Deepwater Horizon, is very, very real," Jealous said.  Congressional Republicans said President Biden's order will increase the price of fuel for Americans.  "Those actions on energy... anti-American energy policies will raise costs even higher on families who can't afford it," said Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House Majority Leader. "Another kick to the gut of hard-working families."  The U.S. Energy Information Administration said in 2023, the U.S. produced more oil than any nation ever and exported more oil than it imports.  "A lot of what we're constraining is the continued exporting," Jealous said.  The White House also announced President Biden issued orders protecting land in California.
