AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to hold a press conference in north Austin on the state's response to severe winter weather that will impact Texas on Wednesday, according to a release from Abbott's office.
Officials with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and others will join Abbott during the briefing.
Earlier this week, Abbott directed the TDEM to active its state emergency response ahead of the severe winter weather, which will cause some areas in the state to face disruptive snow ice and freezing rain, according to Abbott's office.
Going into Wednesday, Central Texas will be mostly cloudy, with the exception of few flurries or sprinkles in between that will not cause any issues. Temperatures are trending slightly warmer, with highs in the low to mid 40s, and there will only be a little sun between the clouds, according to KXAN's First Warning Weather Team.
Going into Thursday, the shift in weather will bring a slower and warmer storm that will have more cold rain and less wintry weather.
Further north, the forecast gets messier, trending slightly lower with snow totals but higher with icing risks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to the First Warning Weather team. The DFW area will be under a Winter Storm Watch, especially from Thursday into Friday morning. Around 3 to 6 inches of snow is forecast for the area.
