ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) — Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) announced that all of its runways reopened Tuesday morning after they closed for several hours. This came after a winter storm pushed across the DMV blasting heavy snowfall and cold temperatures. DCA first posted about the runway closures on the X platform just after 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6. The airports shut down its runways so crews could focus on snow removal and preventing refreezing. Amtrak trains canceled across region after winter storm blasts DMV During that time, more than 130 flights were canceled at DCA. Now that the storm has passed, crews reopened its runways just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday. However, flight cancellations and delays have persisted throughout the morning. Hamid Darvish who is flying out of DCA, said his flight was canceled twice. "It's been an interesting 24 hours. I have gone home, come back, gone home, and come back a couple of times," recalled Darvish. "You can get angry and get frustrated but it doesn't really get me anywhere. I just have to see what the next best option is." All passengers are encouraged to check with direct airlines for the status of their flights.
