ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Two workers were seriously injured after a car struck them and their garbage truck in Batavia Tuesday morning. According to Batavia Police, the incident happened around 7:16 a.m. on Ellicott Avenue. Two workers, ages 33 and 39, were hit as they were standing outside working on a normal garbage pickup. The two men, who were employees of Casella Waste Systems, were helped by an off-duty Batavia Firefighter and other bystanders before Mercy EMS and Batavia Fire Department arrived. They were both transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. According to Police, the 38-year-old driver may have experienced a medical event that caused her to lose control. She was taken to RRH in Batavia as a precaution and was issued a traffic ticket for failure to keep right. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Batavia Police at 585-345-6350.
