Weather Forecast: A snowy afternoon across Rochester and Western New York
Jan 07, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Snow showers persist this afternoon and we add a few tenths of an inch to the snow that fell overnight. Temperatures hold in the upper teens and lower 20s with winds gusting 20-30 mph at times out of the north. That means lake effect snow lingers through this afternoon and tonight.
Technology only gets you so far. There's a huge gap in radar scans throughout the Finger Lakes. Our radar beams from Buffalo and Binghamton are a mile off the ground by the time they get through most of the FLX, and it's snowing at nearly every site I've circled on this map. pic.twitter.com/PvgRvhab98— James Gilbert (@JamesGilbertWX) January 7, 2025
Wednesday's wind flow will favor more familiar looking bands of snowfall that spit out more light snow showers. It's cold enough that any type of north wind will help produce flakes.
There are some more light snow showers that pass overhead going into Thursday as the cold air is lingering.
8-Day Forecast
The lake effect machine will wind down Friday and Saturday, allowing for temperatures to bump a bit into the lower 30s. There still could be a few area-wide snow showers, but models are mixed on that solution at this point. It does look to turn cooler with more snow chances the following week.
