Wind advisory with gusts up to 50 mph bring bitter cold temperatures
Jan 07, 2025
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A Wind Advisory is in effect for parts of western Massachusetts, and with that comes the bitter cold wind chills.
The wind can be dangerous this time of year due to the "wind chill". The wind can make temperatures feel like it is much colder than what a thermometer might read. The “feels like” temperature that you normally hear about, that’s going to be the temperature how it’s going to feel on your exposed skin.

Current Wind Chill Temperatures
If you’re all bundled up in a jacket, the ‘feels like’ temperature will vary from case to case. These wind chill temperatures are much lower because that wind is pulling heat away from your body, and that will lower your overall body temperature.
If you get too cold that could lead to frostbite and hypothermia. These afflictions not only affect us but our pets as well. Some tips for staying safe with a wind chill are to dress in layers, limit your time outside, and keep an eye on your pets.
