SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The brother of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Springfield back in November is facing a variety of charges after he allegedly visited the home of one of the officers involved and made a threat.
According to Hampden District Attorney's Office, Isaiah Lewis was arrested early Saturday morning in the area of Sumner Avenue and Allen Street in Springfield, within hours of the incident at the officer's home. The suspect is the brother of Devin Lewis, who was shot by police in an incident on Lyman Street on November 21. Devin Lewis was alleged to have been standing in an apartment building's doorway carrying two firearms before police opened fire. He later died from his injuries.
DA spokesperson Elijah Ayers told 22News that in this weekend's incident, Isaiah Lewis is alleged to have approached the officer's home with his hand in his pocket; indicating he had a weapon, though none was shown. Ayers says Lewis confronted a family member of the officer and allegedly made a threat. No one was hurt, but police were called and Lewis was arrested not long afterward.
At the time of his arrest, police recovered a loaded 9mm Glock handgun on his person. Ayers says they also allegedly found the address of a second officer involved in Devin Lewis' shooting in Isaiah Lewis' GPS. Additionally, an open bottle of cognac was found inside his vehicle.
Lewis is being charged with witness intimidation, attempting to commit a crime, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and improper storage of a firearm. He was arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday and was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday.
