SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – More than 200 dogs were rescued from horrendous conditions at a property outside of Atlanta Monday.
It was an effort led by several animal rescues and shelters, including Renegade Paws Rescue out of Savannah.
Renegade told News 3 they took back 18 dogs with them after a daylong mission to retrieve the animals.
The kennel operations manager said it seems most of the dogs had been on the property their entire lives, anywhere from 2 to 5 years, and were severely neglected.

"Imagine going into a building with rats, yes, but you have actually rats that were crawling out in the yard itself as we're trying to catch the dogs and wrangle dogs. That was intense," explained Yvonne Davies. "Walking into the house itself, it's not only hoarding of animals, it was a typical hoarding house itself. So, we're walking and climbing over everything, trying to be careful where we're walking because you don't know what's going on. In fact, one of the dogs was in active labor."
Davies said now, the staff at Renegade will work on grooming the dogs to alleviate some of the pain from their extensive matting.
