Snow forming around New Mexico; colder and windier weather
Jan 07, 2025
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Snow is developing in the Enchanted Circle, the San Juan Mountains, and parts of the Northeast Highlands with cold across all of New Mexico with nearly all below the freezing mark with more clouds, higher humidity, as well as stronger easterly winds starting to form. Moisture with the developing low pressure system to the west will continue to meet up with the even colder air ahead to produce more-widespread snow and eventually, dangerous wind chills.
To start across the region from north-northeast to south-southwest, temperatures are in the upper single digits, teens, 20s, and low 30s.

Other than snow winding down in the Four Corners, light snow activity with low-elevation light rain will become more widespread north of I-40, in the West Mountains, and later today, in Southern New Mexico. High temperatures will be mostly lower for all with below-normal temperatures for most, except for the seasonable afternoon temperatures with drying conditions in the Four Corners. From the morning school commute throughout the afternoon, temperatures will reach into the high teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and lower 50s from east-northeast to west-southwest.
As the jet stream continues to dip to our west with the developing storm system slowly moving south then east, light-to-moderate snow with chilly rain activity late will become more widespread tonight into tomorrow through Thursday morning with tomorrow morning become colder with stronger northeasterly winds, leading to many eventually feeling below zero degrees with the gustier of the winds around the East Canyon developing more later today but becoming very gusty after sunset this evening.
More moisture with the colder air in place will lead to more southern precipitation in the form of mostly heavier snowfall mostly south of I-40 later this week, but either way, winter-like conditions will persist for all.
