New license plate would benefit Rhode Island fisheries
Jan 07, 2025
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Islanders have yet another option to choose from when it comes to license plates.
The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation (CFRF) is offering a new charity license plate that will benefit the state's fisheries.
It will support research on the fresh, local, and sustainable seafood species in the state.
The plate was designed by Andrew Lloyd Goodman, an Assistant Professor at the Community College of Rhode Island.
It will have eight species commonly caught in Rhode Island waters: black sea bass, summer flounder (fluke), American lobster, quahog, longfin squid, Jonah crab, scup (porgy), and channeled whelk.
Like all charity plates, the DMV will not produce any until 600 have been preordered.
The plate can be ordered on the CFRF's website. The cost is $42.50 for a set of plates, with $20 from each plate fee benefiting the CFRF.
