MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two teens were arrested in connection to a gas station robbery in Covington, Tennessee on Monday morning. The Covington Police Department responded to the robbery just after 4 a.m. at the Mapco at 833 Highway 51. The cashier told police that two men dressed in all-black clothing pointed a gun at her and demanded cash from the register. Reports say one of the men stood guard at the door, while the other went behind the counter with a gun. He allegedly threatened to shoot the cashier if she pressed the panic button. Video footage of the robbery was recovered by police. Reports say the suspects were also caught on surveillance camera walking in the Broadmeadow Place Apartments, just down the road from the Mapco, after the robbery. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox. At around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, the CPD found both suspects in an apartment at Broadmeadow Place. A 9mm pistol with an extended magazine, believed to have been used in the robbery, and clothing matching the items worn by the robbers were found in a closet. The CPD says the pistol was equipped with multiple parts that are connected to crimes in at least two other states, one being an armed robbery. A serial number was also altered. The suspects were identified as 16- and 17-year-old teens -- one from Covington and the other from Ripley. They were both charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and are expected to appear in Tipton County Juvenile Court later this week. Additional charges relating to the pistol are possible, according to the CPD.
