Building fire leaves rail lines shutdown in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Fire Department is investigating after a one-story maintenance facility caught fire, causing rail line operations to be halted Tuesday morning.
According to KCFD, at about 5:30 a.m., crews responded to a building fire at a waste disposal company near East 9th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.

Firefighters used an aerial ladder to contain and fight the fire. KCFD also reported that the facility had "bulk oil storage," which had leaked from the structure.
As a result of the spill, hazmat crews used diking procedures to create a barrier, blocking the oil from entering other areas. After it was contained, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources was called to determine the next steps.
According to KCFD, rail lines had to be closed so crews could get water from hydrant supply lines across the railroad tracks near the structure.

Rail lines are still shut down and are expected to stay that way for part of Tuesday morning so KCFD can continue to work on the incident around Holmes Road.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
