Girl Scouts discontinuing 2 cookie varieties after 2025 season
Jan 07, 2025
(NEXSTAR) – The Girl Scouts of the USA have announced plans to discontinue two of their “beloved” cookie offerings after the current cookie season, which kicked off Tuesday.
The organization revealed the news in a press release issued that morning.
“The 2025 cookie lineup is jam-packed with the full spread of highly sought after cookie flavors, including Thin Mints®, Samoas®/Caramel deLites®, Peanut Butter Patties®/Tagalongs® and more,” reads the press release. “At the close of the 2025 cookie season, two beloved cookie flavors, Girl Scout S’mores® and Toast-Yay!®, will be retired.”
The GSUSA added that availability of both “soon-to-be-retired varieties” may vary depending on location.
What happens to unsold Girl Scout Cookies at the end of the season?
The S’mores and Toast-Yay! cookies are both relatively new to the Girl Scout Cookies lineup, having debuted in 2017 and 2021, respectively. The S’mores cookies are described as “crunchy graham sandwich cookies with chocolate and marshmallow filling,” while the Toast-Yay! cookies are said to be “full of French toast flavor” and dipped in icing. (The S’mores cookies, upon debut, were actually sold in two varieties, with the other more akin to a chocolate-covered graham cracker.)

A representative for the GSUSA did not provide a specific reason for the cookies’ discontinuation, simply saying the organization “routinely” reevaluates its lineup. However, as noted on the GSUSA's official FAQ webpage, neither the S’mores or Toast-Yay! cookies are listed among the best-selling flavors. (The five best-sellers, in order, are: Thin Mints; Caramel deLites/Samoas; Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs; Adventurefuls; and Peanut Butter Sandwiches/Do-si-dos.)
Why is a s’more called a ‘s’more’?
The GSUSA, in Tuesday’s press release, did not introduce any new cookies to the current lineup in place of the soon-to-depart varieties. But a representative for the organization hinted at the possibility of a new treat in a statement obtained by Nexstar.
“We routinely reevaluate our cookie lineup to make room for new innovations. Discontinuing Toast-Yay! and Girl Scout S’mores® may lead to something new and delicious,” a spokesperson said.
