Jan 07, 2025
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The National Weather Service recognized Parkview Health Tuesday with a certificate for achieving StormReady Community status. This is the first health system in the state to achieve this status recognized by the NWS.
A formal ceremony was held on Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Parkview Business & Technology Center on Production Road.
Northeast Indiana is no stranger to all types of severe weather. Matt Eckroth, the corporate director of Emergency Management and Business Continuity at Parkview Health, said, "The most important element of the StormReady Community status is Parkview's ability to be prepared to provide constant medical services to patients, even in a disaster. Doors must remain open even in extreme times of need."
To obtain the StormReady Community status, the following criteria need to be met:-Establish a 24-hour warning point along with an emergency operations center-Develop a comprehensive plan for severe weather-Conduct regular weather safety training and exercises-Have multiple ways to receive and break down severe weather warnings
Parkview's StormReady designation is valid for four years before the status needs to be renewed in 2028 to maintain it. To read more about the StormReady program from the National Weather Service, click here.
