GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - The lone survivor of an Upstate friend group involved in a deadly vehicle collision on New Year's Eve said he's processing the event that led to the death of four of his friends.
"It's a moment that hasn't left my vision," said Joshua Kelly.
According to Kelly, he was driving behind his four friends at around 9:14 p.m. along Cooley Bridge Road in Pelzer, when he noticed his friends made a wrong turn ahead.

Kelly said he continued driving when he suddenly saw a car speeding past him.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2012 BMW sedan was traveling south on the road while the car occupied by Kelly's friends, was backing out of a private drive into the roadway at the same time.
"As soon as I saw the collision; explosion, I knew something needed to be done," said Joshua Kelly of Abbeville.
SCHP said driver Nicholas Shane Meeks hit the car, killing Amanda Lynn 'Zelena Ophelia Moon' Leroux, Audrey Marie Ross, Jade Evelyn Bruton and Joshua Allen Ward.
"I immediately called 911, turned around, blocked off traffic, immediately tried to secure the scene," said Kelly. "Afterwards, obviously I didn't sleep that night, but I stayed up and processed."

Meeks was arrested and charged with four counts of felony DUI involving death.
"Between the people in the car, there are five children now that lost parents and Audrey's partner, they had a little homestead. They have 23 different farm animals now, and he's all alone to take care of that," said Kelly. "So there's been a lot left behind."

According to Kelly, Ross was the "nurturer" of the friend group - someone they would go to for comfort.
"She had just changed her hair recently because some strangers, it happened two days in a row, came up and she was with some of our other friends, and they actually thought that she was the mom of our friends," said Kelly. "But we all we joked. It was just because of the energy that she gave off; she always took care of us."

As for Zelena and Ward, Kelly said he was in the middle of planning their wedding. Ross was supposed to officiate.

"Josh Ward, he was such a solid source of strength and guidance for a lot of us," said Kelly. "You know, our friend group had all age groups, but he was one of the elders. And I mean, he was there for anything, no matter what time of day, even if he was up in North Carolina and we were in South Carolina. [He had] no problem having a chat [or] sending voice messages. He was there to help and just always a source of strength."
Though Kelly has been greiving, he said he hasn't felt alone, crediting the strong outpouring of support from his community.

"What has really been helpful is just to see how much the community has reached out," said Kelly. "It's been great to see how many people have reached out without having to to ask, and how many people are willing."
Being so closely involved with the accident, Kelly explained, has actually given himself a sense of purpose.
"It's been a great sense of duty and honor, especially being the one there that night, to sort of be able to help the families and meet with all of them and help them get everything in order. [It] has been something that I has really been able to give me strength," said Kelly.
Kelly said a tribute concert for his friends is being held on Jan. 12 from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Tribble's Bar and Grill.
