Widespread cold rain, spotty wintry mix late week
Jan 07, 2025
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures remain far below normal this week as all eyes remain on an approaching winter storm, expected to bring impacts to our area Thursday.
Winter weather preps discussed at public safety meeting
Today should be similar to Monday with mostly sunny skies, a few high clouds and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. There are no wintry weather concerns today.
Wednesday
Recent data shows a slightly slower approach with our next winter storm which will likely keep most of Wednesday dry. That said, there still could be a few pockets of light wintry mix late in the day, but most of us will only see mainly cloudy to overcast skies.
Thursday
By Thursday morning, spotty to scattered showers in the form of both wintry mix and rain are likely to begin in the Hill Country before spreading east.
Due to the slower arrival of this storm, temperatures are now expected to warm just enough to keep most of what falls in Central Texas on Thursday as liquid rain. It's important to note, we still anticipate a few spots of wintry mix within the cold rain, especially for those in the Hill Country. But the vast majority of us are likely to see a cold rain with this setup.
Most of what falls Thursday is likely to be cold rain with only a few pockets of wintry mix
Rain could total anywhere from 0.25"-1" with isolated pockets of more. Further north, the forecast gets messier with the forecast trending slightly lower with snow totals but higher with icing risks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
More wintry weather possible north of Central Texas
Friday
Locally, a few lingering showers are possible Friday morning ahead of drier conditions and slightly warmer temperatures during the afternoon.
