Kane County respiratory illness numbers remain high Respiratory illnesses throughout Kane County is continue to be high, according to the most recent report available from the Kane County Health Department. According to the report, for the week ending Dec. 28: 10.10% of all visits to county emergency departments were for influenza; 1.61% of all visits to county emergency departments were for COVID-19; 2.74% of all visits to county emergency departments were for RSV. Three respiratory illness-related intensive care unit admissions were reported to the health department during that week. There have been 30 such admissions so far for the reporting season, which runs from October through May. No pediatric deaths due to respiratory illnesses have been reported this season and no outbreaks of influenza reported at long-term care/assisted living facilities in Kane County. Respiratory illness activity is tracked through a variety of sources, including emergency department visits, laboratory test positivity, ICU admissions, respiratory illness outbreaks in long-term care facilities and influenza-like illness absenteeism in county schools, the report said. Schools were not in session during the week of the most recently available report. Elgin library district names names new public relations chief The Gail Borden Public Library District has named Natalie Kiburg its new division chief of public relations and development. Kiburg had been serving as the district’s director of online communications, according to a news release. Denise Raleigh, who had been serving in the public relations position, will now be the district’s director of development. “Natalie will be a wonderful spokeswoman for the library district,” Raleigh said in the release. Aged to Perfection Club to meet Thursday in South Elgin The Aged to Perfection Club for seniors will hold its first meeting of the new year from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the South Elgin Public Services Building, 1000 Bowes Road. The club meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month, according to a village of South Elgin social media post. The second Thursday is game day and the fourth is movie day. There is no fee to belong to the club, but registration is encouraged in case there is the need to cancel. Registration is available at southelgin.com/registration, section # 13001-01, or during normal business hours at South Elgin Village Hall, 10 N. Water St.
