Court date set for Providence firefighter accused of assaulting officers in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence firefighter has an arraignment date after a weekend incident involving Johnston police.
According to Johnston police, just before noon on Saturday, officers were called to the Ave Bar and Grill.
When they arrived, they say Patrick Brearley was drunk and disoriented.
They also say he refused to leave and started fighting with the officers, allegedly hitting two in the face.
The 42-year-old is now facing simple assault charges.
A spokesperson for the fire department says the incident is also being investigated internally.
Brearley is due in court on Friday.
