FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Two people are dead after a suspected DUI driver ran through a red light in Fresno Monday, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Officers received the call regarding the collision at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Palm Avenue at 7:18 p.m.
According to Fresno Police, a small black truck was traveling westbound on Belmont Avenue without its headlights on. Police say as it approached the red light it failed to stop and ran through the intersection crashing into a gold truck that was traveling north on Palm Avenue.
The impact of the collision flipped the gold truck which eventually came to rest at a nearby gas station.
Police say both the passenger and driver of the gold truck died as a result of the collision - one on the scene and the other after being transported to the hospital.
The driver of the black truck is in stable condition, according to officials. Police say the driver is in custody and facing several felonies for suspicion of suspected DUI.
This is an ongoing investigation.
