KDOT clears roads after blizzard, expects improvement for drivers
Jan 06, 2025
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Highways across the Sunflower State are starting to reopen after the weekend blizzard.
Crews with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) have been working nonstop for days to clear highways across the state. KDOT closed some major roads over the weekend for the safety of the drivers and to try and get ahead of the snow piles. After spending all of Monday plowing snow, crews will now work to scrap off the layer of ice underneath.
What are the snowfall totals for Kansas?
KDOT Area Superintendent David Studebaker told 27 News the trucks on the road are working to make the safest roads for drivers.
"We don't want anybody to get hurt, we don't want them stranded," Studebaker said. "So, we're doing the best we can while working 24 hours a day. We are very much committed to the public and we're doing everything we can to make it as good as we can.
Crews will work into the night. Studebaker anticipates vast improvements to the highway conditions by Tuesday afternoon.
