BEVERLY, Mass. (WWLP) - A Beverly man faces multiple firearms charges and allegations of inciting violence against Jewish communities after federal authorities tipped off local police about threatening online activity. According to police, Matthew Scouras, 34, of Beverly, was arrested on Saturday and arraigned on Monday, facing charges that include: Possession of a Firearm Without a License (12 counts) Illegal Possession of Ammunition Possession of a Large-Capacity Feeding Device Improper Storage of a Firearm Threats to Destroy a Place of Worship Willful Communication of a Threat with a Dangerous Item (a Firearm) Manufacturing a Firearm Without a Serial Number The Beverly Police Department was alerted by the FBI National Threat Operations Center on January 2 about threatening posts allegedly made by Scouras on an internet image board. The posts included incitements to violence against Jewish individuals and specific calls for shootings outside synagogues. Following an initial visit to Scouras' residence at 527 Essex St., Beverly police secured a search warrant from Salem District Court. Scouras was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation before the warrant was executed. The search uncovered a cache of weapons and other items in Scouras' bedroom, including: A 9mm Glock “ghost gun” without a serial number Six boxes of ammunition Three large-capacity rifle magazines Eleven lower receivers for rifles, legally classified as individual firearms under Massachusetts law Various firearm parts, scopes, pistol frames, and rifle stocks A jig for modifying pistol handles A Nazi flag Over $70,000 in cash (Courtesy of Beverly Police Department) Scouras was arrested without incident and arraigned on January 6. He is being held without bail pending a detention hearing scheduled for January 13.
