PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The days leading up to, during and after New Year's were quite busy for officers across the Ocean State. The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association announced that officers made 108 arrests for driving under the influence between Dec. 27 and Jan. 5. "I'm proud of the work that our police officers are doing to keep our roadways safe, but at the same time, these numbers are deeply concerning," said Warwick Police Chief Bradford Connor, who's also president of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association. "Driving under the influence is never acceptable, and our message is clear: if you choose to drink or use cannabis and drive, you will be caught, and you will be arrested." "This holiday season, 108 people learned that the hard way and will spend the next months — and years — dealing with the consequences," he continued. The Rhode Island State Police reported that troopers made 34 of those DUI arrests. SEE ALSO: Middletown couple facing DUI charges Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
