NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Just before he was shot to death, Christian Williams had an interaction with the man who killed him, according to new court documents that allege Jason Robinson, 35, pulled the trigger.
First responders located Williams in a car that had crashed on Kerrey Avenue, between South Cape Henry Avenue and East Princess Anne Road, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest on the evening of Oct. 10. He was declared dead less than an hour later.
Robinson faces charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The police investigation found that the shooting took place on Kincaid Avenue, about a half-mile away. Norfolk Police was notified of shots being fired just before 8:30 p.m. that night.
The incident was captured on nearby surveillance camera. The document describes Williams pulling up to a group of four men in the video.
"The car briefly stops then pulls out of frame," the criminal complaint reads. "One male leaves the group and approaches where the vehicle pulled off."
"Several gunshots are then heard, followed by the male returning to the car firing again in the direction of the victim, getting in the driver's seat, and leaving at a high rate of speed," it continues.
Robinson was identified through the car he fled the seen in, which was borrowed.
The owner of the car said Robinson had failed to pick them up from work that day, but the car was returned later.
"When [the car's owner] questioned the suspect by phone, he told [them] that he shot "Chicago" (a known nickname of the victim) in self defense," the document reads.
Robinson is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 9.
