FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - One man has been arrested after a stabbing at Promenade Park left one man dead Saturday night. 23-year-old Lamont Cooley was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder in connection to the death of 48-year-old Anthony Paul Wamue of Fort Wayne. The Allen County Coroner identified Wamue Monday as the victim noting in the release that Wamue's death marks the first homicide ruling for 2025 in Allen County. Saturday night, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious person in a bathroom at the park. Police at the scene found a man, later identified as Wamue, suffering from stab wounds in his torso. Wamue was pronounced dead at the scene. Cooley was taken into custody Monday afternoon just after 4:30 p.m. in the 400 block of W Washington Blvd. Cooley was taken to the Allen County Jail and booked Monday evening. Cooley previously pled guilty to a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon in connection to a fight outside of a Marathon in October of 2021. According to court documents, Cooley and another man got into a verbal argument which resulted in Cooley stabbing the man in the head. According to court filings, Cooley was sentenced to a 4-year prison sentence, with two years being suspended. He was then arrested again after release for a misdemeanor charge where his probation was revoked and he had to serve the previously suspended time. According to court filings Cooley was released Friday, Jan. 3.
