Our last day above freezing is when we briefly climbed above 32° on Thursday, January 3rd. We made it up to 33° that day after we started off the new year with a high temperature of 37° on New Year's Day. If you remember last January, we had a stretch of nine straight days with below freezing temperatures from the 13th to the 21st. There is certainly a good chance to see a longer streak this year. What made last year so interesting though is we immediately followed the below freezing streak with six straight days above freezing from the 23rd to the 28th. This resulted in lots of foggy days, so we'll have to see what's in store this year.

With weather records dating back to 1897, the longest ever streak of days below freezing in Fort Wayne was 36 days, set from December 29th, 1976, to February 2nd, 1977. Can you imagine being stuck in the deep freeze for this long? This was over a month!

This was below our average of 37 days. The most days in a year we have been below freezing was 62 days back in 1963. Brr!

Focusing specifically on January, the longest stretch of days below freezing exclusively in January (not including other months) was 18 days back in 2003. However, the 1977 record streak that stretched from December to February means the entire month of January was below freezing that year...incredible! Normally in January though, we average 13 days below the freezing mark.
