FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Two people and two dogs are now safe after firefighters rescued them from a house fire on Fort Wayne's southeast side.
Fort Wayne Firefighters were called to 3319 Winter Street on reports of a house fire, just after 9 p.m. Monday night. When firefighters arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the attic of the home.
The fire took 22 minutes to extinguish and get fully under control.
Firefighters rescued two people who were still in the home when fire crews arrived. Firefighters also sheltered two dogs, who were in the home, until Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control could arrive to assist in evacuating the dogs.
Both people were unharmed but taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
