DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State agents are investigating an inmate's death at a Lowcountry detention center. Dorchester County detention deputies and medical aid responded after receiving reports of an inmate in distress Monday night at the L.C. Knight Detention Center. When responders arrived, they immediately began life-saving measures on the 47-year-old man, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office. EMS also arrived to help, but the inmate died from the medical episode. Lt. Rick Carson, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, did not say what the cause or nature of the medical episode was. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating this incident. The Dorchester County Coroner's Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.
