METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — With the season in the books, the New Orleans Saints will officially begin the search for their next head coach. The players said they want a leader of men, pointing to one candidate in particular who's shown he's a great leader: Interim head coach Darren Rizzi. From day one when he took over after the team fired former head coach Dennis Allen mid-season, Rizzi won over the locker room, especially the leaders. Although the results were not what he wanted, Rizzi inspired change. He changed the locker room and the culture of the team. "Internally, from what I have seen, I know Rizzi is more than capable," said New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. "He's not scared to make change. He's not scared to hold people accountable. He holds himself accountable. I mean, he's just a genuine dude. If I had to throw a vote in the hat... I'm with Rizzi." "When you're given like a gutted roster... let's call it what it is in terms of the injuries that we've had, and you're bringing in your number ones straight off the streets, that's tough to do and yet there were games that we overcame and looked good and that's because of coaching," said defensive end Cam Jordan. "Rizzi brought the juice, a directive. He brought his knowledge in and went straight to using it. For him to be able to command the respect of the team... nobody went to the tanks. And that speaks to the character of Rizzi. That speaks to the character of the men in this building." Rizzi said he plans to interview for the head coaching job sometime next week.
