We've made it through the heaviest, most consistent snow from the first wave of this storm, and most of the afternoon has been quiet. This lull in the snow has allowed road crews to clear things up a bit before the second wave of steadier snow arrives. As the backside of the storm kicks through, steadier snow will travel from west to east from 4 PM to 10 PM. Additional accumulations of 2-4" will be possible, and roads could turn slushy and visibility could drop again as this works through. The good news is that this snow will be over by midnight, and then we will be dry heading into Tuesday. Some re-freeze of any slush and snow on the roads could make things slick, so we'll need to watch for that. By the time all is said and done, most of the region will get at least a half a foot of snowfall with this system, with some areas getting into the double digits for snowfall accumulation through tonight. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 AM Tuesday for most of the region, and until 6 AM for the mountains. It will turn much colder tonight with lows dipping into the upper teens to lower 20s, however the winds will pick up out of the northwest, dipping wind chills into the single digits at times overnight. Tuesday will be drier, but a bitter cold start, and as a result, we made it a DMV First Warn Day. Wind chills will start off in the single digits to lower teens. Highs Tuesday will only reach into the upper 20s to lower 30s with wind chills into the lower 20s for most of the day. The rest of the week is looking dry aside from some mountain snow showers Wednesday. Thursday will be the coldest day of the week with highs in the upper 20s, while we'll have most of the week into the lower to mid-30s. There could be another system bringing some accumulating snow Saturday, but we'll have a better idea after today's system exits and as we get closer. 7-Day Forecast: Tonight: Cloudy with some lingering snow showers, wrapping up before midnight.
