PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — In the event of an emergency, people at Slater Memorial Park in Pawtucket will now have access to a potentially life-saving automated external defibrillator (AED). AEDs are medical devices that are designed to restore heart rhythms with an electric shock, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Blais said the publicly accessible AED will be put in Slater Park's pavilion as the structure serves as a central hub in the park. "Eventually, we hope to follow in the steps of Lincoln Parks & Recreation where AED units are placed in secure cases and accessible through 911 who provides an access code when an emergency call is made," Blais explained. He said the device will help "provide a fighting chance when someone is in need." Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Daily Roundup SIGN UP NOW
