'Starting from zero': Patriots fans mixed about Mayo's firing
Jan 06, 2025
FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — New England Patriots fans were quick to weigh in on the decision to fire rookie head coach Jerod Mayo.
Mayo's firing came after the Patriots bested the Buffalo Bills in their season finale on Sunday, finishing the season with an abysmal 4-13 record.
Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft pinned the blame on himself Monday, stating that he put Mayo in an "untenable situation."
"This situation is all on me," Kraft said.

Patriots fan Jake Paul believes Kraft made the right call.
"I think the results kind of speak for themselves," Paul said.
Austin Mendes agrees.
"He was a Patriot for a long time, and a very well respected Patriot," Mendes said. "But it's one of things things where the team just needs a change ... It will definitely be interesting to see where they go."
But not everyone believes parting ways with Mayo was the right choice.
"He may have been able to prove himself," Rudy Calderon said. "I think he deserved a second chance."
"If we're going to start over again we need to maintain a solid foundation," Mark Desroches added. "You can't keep flipping it around with coaches ... Every time you change a coach, you start from scratch again ... We will be starting from zero next year."
Mayo is the first Patriots head coach since 1990 to be fired after one season. The Patriots will likely have the fourth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft instead of the first overall pick, which the team would've received with a loss to the Bills.
