HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Schools, city services and military bases across the Hampton Roads region will be impacted Tuesday due to expected winter weather overnight. Winter storm warnings continued to be in effect for areas north of Hampton Roads through Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook for northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia is calling for minor snow accumulations of less than one inch, with cold temperatures allowing for possible black ice on the roads. Chesapeake Chesapeake city offices, libraries, community centers and courts — General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and Circuit Court — will delay opening until 10 a.m. City employees with questions should check with their supervisors to determine schedule expectations for the day. Chesapeake Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. All morning preschool is canceled, and afternoon preschool will start one hour later than usual. The morning session at the Chesapeake Career Center is canceled, but the afternoon session will follow its normal schedule. All employees should report on a two-our delay unless directed otherwise by a supervisor. Currituck County (N.C.) Currituck County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Breakfast and morning YMCA care are unavailable on delayed schedule days. Staff will operate under Option 2 and should check their email for further details. Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County (N.C.) Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public Schools will operate on a three-hour delay Tuesday. Its transportation team will evaluate road conditions at 6 a.m. Tuesday, and if it needs to move from a delay to a school closure, it will communicate a decision by 7:30 a.m. Gates County (N.C.) Gates County Schools and New Beginning Daycare will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Gloucester County Gloucester County Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday, with all games and other student activities canceled. Essential personnel may be required to report to work by their immediate supervisors. To make up for lost instructional time, Jan. 17 will now be a full student day. Hampton Hampton City Schools and offices will be closed Tuesday, which includes all after-school and evening activities. It said the instructional day missed will be made up Jan. 28, which had been planned as a professional development day for staff. The teacher workday scheduled for Jan. 27 will be adjusted for a half-day teacher workday and a half-day for professional development. Hertford County (N.C.) Hertford County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Breakfast is not served on days with a two-hour delay. Isle of Wight County Isle of Wight County Schools will be closed Tuesday. Newport News All Newport News public schools and offices will be closed Tuesday for students and most employees. School division leaders will be monitoring weather and road conditions and will adjust schedules as needed. Families and employees will be notified accordingly. Newport News city offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Norfolk Norfolk Public Schools will be closed Tuesday due to forecasted inclement weather. Essential personnel will be given instructions from their supervisors regarding expectations to secure and maintain facilities. Staff and families will get updated information via email, the school division website, on Facebook, X and Channel 47. Naval Station Norfolk will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday for all non-mission essential personnel. Mission essential personnel should report to work as directed by their unit leadership, while sailors and civilians assigned to tenant organizations should check with their respective chain of command for instructions and reporting status. Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads will also operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Perquimans County (N.C.) Perquimans County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Portsmouth All schools and administrative offices will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. City of Portsmouth offices will also be on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Suffolk Suffolk city offices will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Suffolk Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay. Suffolk Public & Recreation before-school programming is canceled. After-school programming will operate as normal. The North Suffolk, Morgan Memorial and Chuckatuck libraries will close at 6 p.m. Monday. Suffolk Parks & Recreation joint-use facilities after-school programming was canceled Monday, while the East Suffolk, Curtis Milteer and Bennett's Creek recreation centers will close at 6 p.m. Monday. Sussex County Sussex County government offices will operate under a two-hour delay Tuesday. Virginia Beach Virginia Beach City Public Schools will operate under a two-hour delay Tuesday. All in-person and virtual support services will resume at 11 a.m. Virginia Peninsula Community College Due to expected inclement weather, Virginia Peninsula Community College will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
