Cold weather advisory issued for Jefferson Parish

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish officials have announced that a cold weather advisory has been issued ahead of low temperatures on Jan. 6.
Parish officials said the National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the mid to low 30s across the state Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

As preparations begin, the parish is reminding residents to check on their neighbors and older adults, bring pets inside or ensure they have a warm shelter, wrap exposed pipes and protect their plants.
Parish officials said those in need of temporary shelter can call the Jefferson Parish Emergency Operations Center at 504-349-5360.

Residents looking to stay out of the cold during the day can visit any Jefferson Parish library during regular hours.
Parish officials also said residents should place portable space heaters on hard, level and nonflammable floors and keep them at least three feet away from things that can burn.
