GRANT COUNTY, Ind. -- Two people have been arrested on several drug-related felony charges after deputies recovered over 20 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop in Grant County.
According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, members of the JEAN Team Drug Task Force flagged a red Dodge Dakota as it was driving just outside of Gas City on Sunday after it had allegedly committed two separate "infractions."
When the vehicle came to a stop, a police K9 sniffed around its exterior and alerted deputies to the possible presence of illegal narcotics inside.
During their search, GCSO said deputies reportedly located 27.7 grams of fentanyl and two syringes. Deputies subsequently placed 42-year-old Nathan Strasser under arrest, who they identified as the owner and driver of the vehicle.
Ashlee Crews, 32, was also arrested and transported to the Grant County Jail alongside Strasser for further questioning.
GCSO said deputies later learned that Strasser was out on bond for a previous level 2 felony for dealing in methamphetamine and possession of a syringe, which is a level 6 felony.
Strasser was preliminarily charged with possession of cocaine or narcotic drug with intent to deliver (level 2 felony) and unlawful possession of a syringe (level 6 felony).
GCSO said Crews was also wanted on three separate warrants for her arrest, including nonsupport of a dependent child (level 6 felony) out of Adams County, possession of a narcotic drug in Grant County (level 6 felony) and operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration of .15 or more.
The investigation revealed that Crews was also on Grant County probation for a previous charge of unlawful possession of a syringe. She had a "Risk Level" rating that lasted until Dec. 22, according to GCSO.
Crews was booked into the Grant County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
Possession of cocaine or narcotic drug with intent to deliver (level 2 felony)
Unlawful possession of a syringe (level 6 felony)
Identity deception (level 6 felony)
The case remains under investigation.
