Suspect sought after Wisconsin truck theft leads to shelterinplace order

BARABOO, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in Wisconsin are searching for a suspect who allegedly stole a truck and fled on foot after a traffic stop, prompting a shelter-in-place order.
According to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of a stolen vehicle from a Baraboo resident shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 3. The Baraboo Police Department began investigating the theft, while deputies searched for the stolen truck.

The vehicle was spotted traveling west on State Highway 136 and was safely stopped near Kohlmeyer Road. Two occupants fled on foot. One was arrested at the scene, but the other, believed to be the driver, escaped.
Authorities initiated a search of the area, and the Sauk County Emergency Management Team issued an automated alert to local residents, advising them to lock their doors and shelter in place.
Although the alert was intended for those within the immediate search area, some individuals outside the area received the message due to carrier-specific procedures.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted around 2:30 a.m. after an extensive search failed to locate the suspect.
