BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Local businesses on Clinton Street in Buffalo's Kaisertown neighborhood reported that their storefronts have been damaged in recent weeks, with bricks and rocks smashing their front windows.
From homelessness to property damage, business leaders in Kaisertown want a number of problems addressed by local officials. One of those key issues has been property damage of local businesses.
WIVB News 4 learned more about residents' concerns ahead of a public meeting set for Tuesday night, which will start at 6 p.m. at Autumnwood Senior Center. Residents and business will air their concerns about some quality of life issues impacting the neighborhood.
Damage has been reported at a printing store, pizza shop, craft store and an insurance agency. Video footage from two weeks ago showed one of those businesses being damaged.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office said the suspect in the video, Leroy Scott, faces charges and bail has been set.
"That has really caused quite a panic and quite a wave in the Kaisertown community and the meeting for tomorrow is to have representation not only from the Kaisertown community, but from our government and our local officials on what we're going to do about it, what is the resolution," said Kevin Mason, vice president of the Kaisertown Coalition.
Kaisertown residents and businesses have also been complaining about homelessness, absentee landlords and increased drug use.
Officials from the mayor's office, Buffalo police, the DA's Office and elected leaders have been invited to attend Tuesday's public hearing.
"We will be talking to our council member when talking to other officials tomorrow to see if there's any type of money available to help these business owners or whether the businesses were rented or not," Mason said. "Any type of financial assistance that can help to cover these expenses would be greatly appreciated."
