BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — With a new legislative session on the horizon, many North Dakotans are hoping that the state will address many different topics — but the exact priorities and viewpoints vary from person to person. However, a new survey from North Dakota United offers insight into the main concerns that most voters have going into 2025, as well as their thoughts on some of our most pressing matters. According to a press release from ND United, an education union and advocacy group, the poll included 600 state voters, and was conducted in December 2024 by landline, mobile phone, and text-by-web. The survey's key findings, the group states, include the following: 81% of the surveyed population supports property tax reform. 79% were in favor of universal free school lunches. 68% are opposed to public money being used to pay for private school tuition fees. Only 10% of polled North Dakotans believe that voucher programs would benefit rural and urban families in equal measure. When asked about the challenges to proper K-12 education in North Dakota, survey respondents listed teacher recruitment and retention and insufficient funding as the primary concerns. “These findings are striking,” said ND United President Nick Archuleta in the release. “They underscore that universal free school meals are just as important to North Dakotans as property tax reform. These results should be a clear guide for lawmakers.” North Dakota United was created in 2013 as a result of a merger between the North Dakota Education Association and the North Dakota Public Employees Association. The union advocates for public education and public services in North Dakota. The complete results of the education survey can be found below. 2024-25-NDU-Education-Survey-SummaryDownload Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
