BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Bakersfield attorney accused of driving drunk in a crash that injured people setting up a DUI checkpoint had a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit, a prosecutor said Monday. William Charles Wright, 42, was arraigned Monday afternoon on two counts of DUI causing injury and hit and run resulting in injury. He's also facing a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge. Not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf and a preliminary hearing scheduled March 20. Wright, an estate planning attorney, is free on $30,000 bail and represented by attorneys Jeremy Brehmer and David Faulkner. Prosecutor Kacie Barrier asked during the hearing for bail to be increased, saying Wright's BAC tested at 0.18% and he has two prior DUI convictions. Superior Court Judge Andrew Kendall didn't adjust the bail amount, but warned Wright he's not to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol in his system. The crash occurred the night of Dec. 14 on Calloway Drive north of Slikker Drive when Wright's blue Lexus SUV crashed into the back of a CHP Dodge Charger, officers said. An officer and juveniles in the CHP's Explorer Program were injured, according to CHP. They'd been setting up a checkpoint when the crash occurred. Barrier said four people were injured.
