WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A 46-year-old man is in jail after police say he was firing a gun inside a home near 13th and Estelle early Sunday morning.
The Wichita Police Department says a woman in the home was afraid and contacted a friend. That friend called 911. While the friend was on the phone with her, he told 911 he heard gunshots in the background.
The friend said the man in the home was walking around the house and shooting a gun.
Officers were dispatched at 6:43 a.m. They could hear gunfire, which helped them locate the home. The WPD set up a perimeter.

The woman in the home stayed in contact with her friend, who continued to relay the information to 911 dispatchers.
The WPD said the updates included critical information about when the suspect reloaded his firearm, allowing officers to coordinate their actions more effectively.
The suspect eventually left the house and was arrested without further incident. Police say the man was wearing an ankle monitor and was prohibited from having a gun. He was booked into jail.
The WPD says the Kansas Highway Patrol helped establish the perimeter and to check the home after the incident.
“This situation could have ended in tragedy, but thanks to the exceptional work and collaboration between the Wichita Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol, it was resolved without any injuries," Chief of Police Joe Sullivan said in a news release. "The de-escalation techniques and the restraint shown by the responding officers and troopers reflect their training and commitment to protecting our community. I want to commend everyone involved for their outstanding efforts personally.”
WPD also thanked Sedgwick County 911 dispatchers for relaying critical information and updates to the officers on the scene.
