Crews were called to chimney fire in Gill

GILL, Mass. (WWLP) - Crews were called to a chimney fire in Gill on Sunday night.
The Turners Falls Fire Department said they were called at around 9:57 p.m. to assist Gill firefighters with a chimney fire. The Turners Falls ladder truck was used to position access to the outside of the chimney. Crews worked to control the fire using weighted chains/brushes to remove any possible buildup of creosote from within the flue.

The Gill Fire Department said that the fire was contained to the chimney and no injuries were reported.

A qualified mason should inspect the chimney and flue before the stove is used and annually. Cracks in the flue or mortar joints can allow flames and heated gases to get into living spaces.
