GILL, Mass. (WWLP) - Crews were called to a chimney fire in Gill on Sunday night. The Turners Falls Fire Department said they were called at around 9:57 p.m. to assist Gill firefighters with a chimney fire. The Turners Falls ladder truck was used to position access to the outside of the chimney. Crews worked to control the fire using weighted chains/brushes to remove any possible buildup of creosote from within the flue. Cracks in the flue or mortar joints can allow flames and heated gases to get into living spaces.
