NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Winter-like temperatures have returned across all of New Mexico with nearly all below the freezing mark with some passing clouds, dry air, and light winds. Moisture with a developing low pressure system to the west will meet up with the even colder air ahead to produce widespread snow and eventually, dangerous wind chills. To start across the region from north-northeast to south-southwest, temperatures are around zero degrees, the single digits, teens, 20s, and lower 30s. High temperatures will be mostly lower for all with seasonably temperatures for most, except for the below-normal afternoon temperatures in Southeast New Mexico. From the morning school commute throughout the afternoon, temperatures will reach into the upper 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and near 60 degrees from east-northeast to west-southwest. As the jet stream dips to our west with the developing storm system slowly moving east, light-to-moderate snow with chilly rain activity late will become more widespread tonight into tomorrow through Wednesday morning with each morning for the next couple of mornings become colder with stronger northeasterly winds, leading to many eventually feeling below zero degrees with the gustier of the winds around the East Canyon developing tomorrow morning but becoming very gusty after sunset tomorrow. More moisture with the colder air in place will lead to more southern precipitation in the form of mostly heavier snowfall mostly south of I-40 later this week, but either way, winter-like conditions will persist for all.
