RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police are investigating multiple crashes as severe weather moves throughout the state. State police are investigating multiple crashes that occurred Monday morning, Jan. 6., as the winter storm moves throughout Virginia. The following information is based on crash investigations that were conducted between 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. by state by Virginia State Police: Richmond area -- VSP responded to 96 crashes, with four reported injuries. Culpeper, Northwest Virginia -- VSP responded to 33 crashes, with one reported injury. Appomattox, Central West Virginia -- VSP responded to 22 crashes, with one reported injury. Wytheville, Southwest Virginia -- VSP responded to 11 crashes, with no reported injuries. Hampton Roads -- VSP responded to 22 crashes, with six reported injuries. Salem, Western Virginia -- VSP responded to 31 crashes, with four reported injuries. Northern Virginia -- VSP responded to 33 crashes, with three reported injuries. According to state police, all of the crashes may not be related to the weather, but it does provide insight of what is being witnessed on the roads currently. PREVIOUSLY: Virginia State Police investigates 181 crashes as winter storm begins In addition, state police advise residents of Virginia to avoid traveling on the roads during the storm. However, if you must travel, state police recommends the following tips: Use headlights to increase visibility Slow down your speed Do not tailgate Buckle up Check your vehicle for good working conditions -- ensure windshield wipers, wiper fluid, tire treads and battery life are in good conditions. Don't forget to pack a window scraper, bottled water and a snack, phone charger and a flashlight. State police have increased the presence of troopers on the roads, with troopers working 12-hour shifts since Sunday, Jan. 5, to address reported crashes.
